In a city that has everything
I have nothing
In a world of lights and theaters and restaurants
My world is a cardboard box
Tossed casually on the side of a skyscraper
Hot, cold, wet, dry, one season blending into the next
In a city that millions of tourist want to see
They see my box, their eyes avoid me, glance away
Their world is Broadway and 5th Avenue
They don't come to see nothing
In a city of everything

My world is hunger and thirst
In a world of plenty
And when night falls and my begging cup is still empty
The nothing that has become of me
Has the power to take my breath away in shame
And I want to scream for them to see me
For them to help me
But in a city of street noise and music
My voice can never be heard
And in a world of everything
I will always have nothing
